Writer joe rusz marveled at the ruf s breathtaking performance, most notably its ability to reach 154 mph with the top down, but it was senior editor peter egan who best summed up the car s performance, commenting that the ruf is a genuinely fast car, the fastest i ve ever driven. What s startling is not only its top speed but how quickly the car gets there. The ruf turbo cabrio was also featured on the cover of auto week and was the subject of a yokohama tires advertising campaign. Ruf s reputation for building ultimate porsches was greatly enhanced by this car, which he endowed with a turbocharged, fuel-injected 3. 4 l sohc flat-6 engine and a ruf-built 5-speed transmission (porsche offered only a 4-speed at the time).
